Every brand, business, nonprofit, institution, and individual needs writers to tell their story in the most compelling way. Our creative writing students learn the art of narrative and how to evoke a reader’s emotions by applying literary theory to personal practice. We prioritize student creative work while reading widely and learning from the many authors who came before us. Through workshops, interdisciplinary courses and hands‑on opportunities (such as editing a literary journal or studying abroad), you’ll develop the craft, confidence and creativity needed to thrive as a storyteller in any field, as well as the soft skills to be a leader in organizations that require clear communication, ideation, and a strong work ethic.

What You Can Expect
Genre‑spanning workshops
Write and revise fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and screenwriting in small, collaborative classes.
Experiential learning
Join the creative writing club, edit Camas, study abroad or take interdisciplinary courses that blend writing with ecology, film or the arts.
A year‑long capstone
Complete an ambitious senior project — a novella, screenplay or collection of stories or poems — with close faculty mentorship.
